Major Lazer
Get Free

Diplos returns, sans Switch, with their (previously collaborative) project, Major Lazer, pushing for another tasty slice of Jamaican-fused dub with some saucy summer vocals from the sweet voice of Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors fame. With a Caribbean bassline rolling beneath swirling keyboard stabs, and Ambers fantastic range providing a flowing melody, "Get Free" is not usual Diplo fare if you aren't familiar with 2009's "Guns Don't Kill People...".
Bequeathing simplicity by layering on the effects, the overall sound is summery and breezy, yet hiding the charge of the light politicization inherent within. But crank it up in your car in the current mini-heatwave, and somehow, it feels right. A little more of Miss Coffman in future releases would not be a bad thing, it seems.
Oh, and make sure to check out the trippy animated video accompanying it - lovely. A good sign of things to come.
