Keston Cobblers Club are a special and entirely ‘English’ confection – like Eccles cake or Mint Cake they are sweet but have hidden depths. Too much is a bit of an overdose but this ep comes in at a perfect length.

5 tracks and every one seems to bring the sun out and create rainbows in the mind.

They sit in a folk vein but the music seems to throw in all sorts of other things – music hall choruses, trumpets and something that sounds like a steam organ as well as mandolins and wonderful harmonies.

The theme of the EP is carried through to the artwork and the songs fit snugly into it all from opener ‘Run Away’ and through ‘Longer Than Gone’, ‘Spring’, the indie-pop-esque ‘Oh Euphonia’ and finally ‘Won’t Look Back’ – all little gems with rare charms and something to make the listener smile wistfully.

This is the summer holidays encapsulated but deeper and when you dig deeper there is real emotion there too.
Treat yourself – the autumn days deserve it.
