Take an early holiday this year and get yourself to the John Foxx & The Maths gig in Madrid, Spain on 26th May. Don't think sunshine and tanning, think retro, electro, cool with Ultravox’s original lead singer and one of Gary Numan’s contempories, John Foxx.

Foxx's sound stands out with metallic rhythms crossed with ghostly vocals and synth busting tunes. For the latest album "The Shape of Things", he describes his current line up (Benge, Hannah Peel and Serafina Steer) as "the best band I have ever worked with". This album is layered with detached vocals which complement the lonely observational lyrics of optimism in an urban wilderness, all from the view point of a quiet man.

If you have never come across John Foxx, do google him. He is a pioneer and has had a gigantic influence on the electronica scene and cheekbones that have stood the test of time. After an absence, this is a very welcome return. If you can’t quite get to Madrid, they will be playing Bestival this September.

I spoke to John Foxx and Benge after they won the Artrocker award for Electro Act of the Year. Click below and you can hear what they had to say.
