World famous rapper and producer Incwell has endured major highs and soul crushing lows, yet he continues to remain humble in an industry that changes many. Incwell's father was murdered when he was just 5-years-old, and despite his personal battles, he has worked hard to achieve his goals. Hailing from Washington DC, the rapper understands the importance of giving back and continues to help homeless youth in his community.

Music-News had the privilege to chat to the multi-talented rapper about his latest single Fly Now and staying strong in an industry that can make or break you overnight.

Music News - What can you tell me about your early days as performer?

What can I tell you about my earlier days as a performer, I sucked. Once you get a little experience under your belt and become more comfortable, you learn that the most important thing is to connect with the audience. Everything else becomes trivial and that aspect alone will carry you through the performance. I still get nervous before every show with just a touch of the butterflies. But a good amount of anxiety and nervousness is good because it means you still care.

Music News - Which artists have inspired and influenced you?

A lot of different artists bring me inspiration. Depeche Mode, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, The Beatles, Citizen Cope, Kavinsky, Pop Etc., Local Natives, Jay-z, Pink Floyd, Mos Def, and Eminem just to name a few. I take a lot of my influences from those artist and many more. I even listen to Beethoven and classical music. When you understand music theory it gives you a deeper appreciation for the creative process and the music itself.

Music News - You have endured many personal hardships in your life and against all odds, you have come a long way. What do you attribute this success to

My success is a product of the support system I've had. Family and friends have always kept me strong and motivated. After everything I've come through I am the man I am today because of it. For better or worse might I add! LOL Despite all I am very blessed. My music is definitely cathartic as well, helps me express myself constructively.

Music News - What can you tell me about your single, Fly Now?

I just like to think of it as a very honest song. It speaks to my struggles, my journey, and my triumph. Fly Now, and every other song on the live band album, "Phantasmagoria," are very genuine pieces of music. That's why I decided to do a "one-take" live album, mistakes and all.

Music News - I understand that you are quite the philanthropist and have been helping homeless youth in your area. Well Done!!! Can you tell me more about this?

Well, I taught a "Creative Writing" class a few years back. My classroom was filled with underprivileged kids from ages 9-13. Although, the class was called  Creative Writing it turned into a hip-hop class because all the kids wanted to freestyle. I also did some motivational speaking at a couple group homes. All in all I think that servicing your community helps others greatly and can be equally fulfilling.

Music News - Considering that the music industry is so fickle, what advice would you give to musicians starting out?

You've got to find what works and roll with it. And try your hardest to be an individual, and original. It's a tough business, almost as tough as politics. You can be on top one minute and the next minute it's like no one has ever heard of you before. So you have to be strong-willed and have thick skin. Fame is the most cruel two-sided coin. It's a double edge sword that cuts badly both ways, never forget that.

Music News - If you could perform with anyone, either living or passed, who would it be?

I always watch historic performances on Palladia. I would have loved to perform at Woodstock 69. All the amazing artist from Paul Butterfield to Santana. I don't know if I have the talent to stand on the stage with those legends but I would have loved to try my hand.

Music News - Music aside, what do you like doing in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to drink good beer and scotch. I love to watch and play sports. I like to fish as well. I like to spend time with my family and friends. See new things and learn new things. I'd rather spend my time in a dive bar with the homies than be out at some fancy club getting bottle service. I'm just a laid back type of guy.

Music News - What’s on your career wish list?

I want to do it all. I want to produce, write, act, and direct film/TV along with achieving the highest musical accolades.
