I don’t know if it is pre-Xmas melancholy or just a feeling that we are on the edge of a precipice but this single really struck a chord with me.

Fronted by Daniel Lefkowitz (ex Low Anthem) and featuring Jared Elmore on synths and machines they create a dark and deep noise with Lefkowitz’s gentle guitar underpinning his echoed vocals. As he sings “Save yourself, when the light comes flickering. A nuclear candle in the brightening sky” you probably aren’t expecting a happy, clappy singalong.
But they avoid depressive and sonorous and somehow leave you, the listener, with a sense that you might just get out of this anyway.

The playing is simple and the production dense but as a taster for the upcoming album and as the first single I’ve listened to after the Mayan End of The World it really will do fine.

An excellent start to 2013 methinks.
