British rural indie band “Fight The Bear” release their 3rd Album “Thirty Eight Degress” independently in May 2013.
Whilst listening through this album I was struggling to find a word to effectively describe but I’ve found it... it's nice. This album is just nice. Nothing groundbreakingly massive, just nice. But nice is a good thing.
Showing us that the UK independent scene is still worth taking notice of Fight The Bear are a 4 piece indie rock band from rural Shropshire. Their countryside upbringing rings clear in this album with simplicity and an overall chilled feeling being paramount throughout.
From start to finish the sound is reminiscent of early Vampire Weekend. Cheeky guitar inputs and licks ring through in tracks like Fall Apart and Puzzle Pieces. The “nice” feeling continues with the track Wide Open offering a brilliant piece of coming of age song writing with the song flowing like a well-oiled machine- this is definitely the best track on the album. The rest of the album however sounds the same of everything else, but with one crucial difference, it all sounds good so no complaints!
Being an independent band they have learnt from past mistakes and with over 6 years and 2 albums experience they have created a good album. Top job!
