After the initial blast from Dr Feelgood Wilko Johnson left the band and to many this was the end of ‘The Feelgoods’ but Gypie Mayo was recruited and while his guitar sound was different to Wilko’s (as if anyone could ever sound like Wilko) he brought something new to the band and with Lee Brilleaux, The Big Figure and Sparko remaining they went from strength to strength.

This captures them in Germany in 1980 and as usual with Rockpalast everything is in place for the band to perform without the TV people getting in the way.

The band are actually on great form, clearly enjoying playing and Brilleaux in particular is in his pomp – glaring at the crowd, eyes popping and posing for all he was worth, his voice on excellent form.

The setlist is full of Feelgood classics – ‘Jave Blue’, ‘Stupidity’, ‘Riding On The L&N’ (featuring some fine slide from Lee) and of course numbers like ‘Back In The Night’ and ‘Milk And Alcohol’ – a huge set but the crowd are loving it and the intensity never drops.

Dr Feelgood were a great live band and this catches them at a peak, Good value with a CD and DVD combo and essential for any Feelgood fans.
