Hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne, although the accents would not betray this, Bridie Jackson and The Arbour offer a fine line in delicate folk tinged acoustic song.
Gathered here tonight in the intimate select space that is Cecil Sharp House, childhood memories of school assembly aside, the venue lends itself to this musical transaction.
The first song of debut album 'Bitter Lullabies' entitled 'We talked again' is the perfect opener to the evening, bell plates and cello combine with swirling vocal melodies to dramatic effect.
Winners of the Glastonbury Festival Emerging Talent Competition in 2013 these four plucky multi-instrumentalists take us on a musical journey wistfully combining acoustic, folk, and a-cappella with a gentle yet reassuring timbre.
Bridie Jackson and The Arbour has discovered an enchanting and unique brand of fantasy folk which must slowly but surely see them rise and claim their rightful place as respected purveyors of merriness and melancholy. The single 'Scarecrow' which sits resolutely in the latter camp, imparts a tale of being killed 'on my wedding night' a chillingly somber tale, do check out the video below.
Closing the proceedings with an inspired cover of Justin Timberlake's 'Cry Me A River' the night confirmed this quartet is clearly in the ascendancy.
Their next London outing will see them play Kings Cross St Pancras church during a UK album launch tour to showcase their new material, catch this band now before their delightful secret is exposed.
