If you’re seriously into cute, smart pop songs that combine original song-writing with energetic melodies, then 15 year-old Alice Sungrurov’s single, ‘So Blind’, is manna from heaven.

Currently released through HitPLay Records, ‘So Blind’ discusses the all too familiar teen tribulation of a girl trying to get noticed by a boy she’s taken a fancy too, but Sungurov’s confidence and wittiness is such that she effectively blames the guy for nothing having happened yet and gets swiftly away with it.

Without stressing her vocal range too much, the young singer’s grasp of tone belies her young years and, unpreoccupied with a stable rhythmic delivery or an overabundance of incompatible rhymes, Sungurov has a unique style of her own that comes across instantly and effortlessly.

‘So Blind’ is catchy and bright – something you can really get good and loose too whilst empathising with her plight. Still, it’s not nauseatingly naff as it applies an edgy, marginally punky rockiness similar to the type that dominated the US charts in the early 90s and was so prevalent within teen culture. Sungurov will be hoping that fervour for the genre hasn’t waned.
