This pretty song by new folk troubadour Alexi Murdoch has been compared to Nick Drake but this high praise is misplaced on a track that leans more towards the American sound of Bon Iver. The delicate guitar playing is perhaps too understated as the melody is slightly turgid and morose placing it in the category of angst ridden folk that has become a bit boring of late. It is a shame that there is no B-side because it would be interesting to hear further songs from this undoubtedly talented singer songwriter.

Cited by Rolling Stone magazine as one to watch for 2011 Murdoch also appeared on the pleasant soundtrack to indie flick ‘Away We Go’. He has also sold over 100,000 copies of his self released debut album ‘Time Without Consequence’ to great critical acclaim and has a loyal following that is steadily growing. It is always difficult to judge an artist on the strength of one track but there is lots of potential here although originality and quirkiness does not feature. If this is the only track you hear all week you will be happy until you hear it done better by countless other acoustic crooners.
