Katy Perry and Robert Pattinson were "wasted" in their karaoke video.

The American singer and British actor have been good friends for years and are often spotted out together.

A video was recently released of the pair performing a rendition of Boyz II Men's track I'll Make Love To You, which sees Katy sitting on her pal's lap at karaoke bar Dimples in Burbank, California.

Speaking about the footage to Australian radio presenters Kyle and Jackie O the 29-year-old beauty addressed rumours circulating about the nature of their relationship.

"Yeah [we did karaoke] in 2008. Well there's the media for you, nothing is sacred - not even karaoke!" she laughed.

"We were just hanging out and we have a lot of friends that we hang out with. One of my best friends is a mutual friend of ours and we got wasted and did karaoke like people do! About eight years ago and it finally f**king showed up on the internet. At least it shows you that we're actually just friends, we're like true friends. It's like if you're a girl you can't be friends with that guy... I feel for him, I feel for him."

Katy is currently promoting her new album Prism. While she loves her supporters Down Under the raven-haired musician can't say the same about the press in Australia and she often finds herself ignoring their comments online.

"The fans here are some of the best fans and people that love music are some of the best audiences, I'll tell you that first and foremost... But the media is super twisted here. It's actually the worst in the whole world unfortunately..." she sighed.

"You could call me any name that would kind of stick, you know? You can make up anything on the internet because you can be so anonymous. That's not actually a real problem for me because I don't pay it a lot of attention; I actually kind of go my own way."
