Catching up with the genius that is Lloyd Cole in London yesterday Music-News.com asked What he considered of the state of Europe as compared to the States where Lloyd lives [5:30 on the video interview below], in a candid reply he stated:
"Well I don't think anywhere could be much worse than the state America is in right now, dysfunctional is a buzzword these days, people talk about Greece being dysfunctional, America is, it's a mess. I mean the idea that the government can shut down is ludicrous, it's idiotic."
Asked what was the best thing about America he continued:
"What is the best thing about America? You see I don't believe in the idea of America, my wife thoroughly believes in the idea of America as laid out in the constitution, but for me the constitution of the United States is a reactionary document to make sure they don't turn out into another England, and it's a reaction against the British trying to tax them.
"So for me there is too many checks and balances in the constitution, I think it's very well intended but what we see now is when you have so many checks and balances each arm of government can effectively stop the other arm from doing anything and that's what's been happening the last 20 years in America. The executive branch has been stopped by the House."
Lloyd Cole has released 12 studio albums including three with The Commotions and one with The Negatives.
