Green Day has had to cancel their Italian show and return to the US after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong fell ill.

Armstrong was rushed to hospital “due to illness” before their weekend show in Bologna, with bandmates Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt posting a short YouTube video expressing their concern for him and regret over canceling their show.

“We’re beyond devastated,” says Cool, “We’re as sad as you guys are. Billie is extremely upset about it, and we’ll see you very soon.” Dirnt promised that they would make up the show as soon as they could.

TMZ cornered Armstrong as he and the band returned to their home base of LA, but all he could do was point to his throat and mouth “My voice is gone” before they climbed into a waiting van.

Check out Cool and Dirnt’s video apology below, and the TMZ footage after that.
