The inimitable Nelly Furtado sat down with AOL Music Sessions for an intimate look at her forthcoming album The Spirit Indestructible, due out September 18th.

In the in-depth interview the singer reveals details about the period between her last English record (2006's Loose) and the recording of the new release, including her time in Africa working with Free the Children, the formation of her record label Nelstar, and how she reconnected with her creative energy. After the interview Nelly performed a selection of her recent hits like "Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)," the first single from the new album, and "Parking Lot," another high-energy track from The Spirit Indestructible.

In addition to her AOL Session, Nelly recently stopped by Yahoo! Music for a round of acoustic performances and another one-on-one interview piece, sharing details about what keeps her creativity flowing and what's surprised her most in her 12-year career.

Earlier this month Nelly released the official video for title track and second single "Spirit Indestructible," which was shot in the singer's hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia.
