The Official Chart Company in the U.K. has been running a poll to allow the British population to pick their all-time favorite number 1 record from the 60 years of the Singles Chart.

A panel of music expert shortened the list of over 1,000 number 1 singles to sixty and the public was allowed to choose their favorite from the group. The votes were tallied and the list reduced to the top ten which is now up for the vote at the Official Chart Company site.

As happens in these types of polls, more recent music almost always wins out over older songs. Even though the number 1's go back to 1952, the oldest song in the final ten is the Beatles' Hey Jude from 1968. The newest is Adele's 2011 hit Someone Like You.

The ten finalists:

...Baby One More Time - Britney Spears
Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Can't Get You Out of My Head - Kylie Minogue
Dancing Queen - ABBA
Don't Look Back in Anger - Oasis
Hey Jude - Beatles
Imagine - John Lennon
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston
Someone Like You - Adele

The results of the final poll will be revealed on Britain's ITV1 on July 8, 14 and 15.
