Here we go. Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison of The Doors are the latest late stars to be turned into money-making holograms.

Billboard reports that the managers of the estates of Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison are both exploring the idea of turning footage of the late legends into holograms, a la Tupac and, more recently, Elvis.

Once again, we must specify that the above technology does not necessarily create “holograms” so much as exploits the ‘Pepper’s Ghost’ visual illusion.

The Doors’ manager Jeff Jampol, is planning a complete multimedia experience featuring the band reunited with their holographic lead singer. Incidentally, he also manages the estates of Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, Peter Tosh and Rick James.

Rather than just use existing footage, Jambol wants a fully-reconstructed digital Jim, saying, “Hopefully, ‘Jim Morrison’ will be able to walk right up to you, look you in the eye, sing right at you and then turn around and walk away.”

Experience Hendrix CEO and sister of the guitar legend Janie Hendrix has reportedly been working with a company for over a year. She said to Billboard, “For us, of course, it’s about keeping Jimi authentically correct. There are no absolutes at this point.”

Hopefully they can digitally render a sweet late-’60s horn section so they can recreate this…
