A painting of Gotye based on his ‘Something That I Used To Know’ video has sold for $15000 in Melbourne.

Adelaide artist Emma Hack spent nine hours with Wally de Backer (Gotye) three weeks ago in her studio painting a replica of the video featuring Wally covered in body paint.

Emma was the artist who painted Wally and Kimbra for the ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ video. The stop start animation in the video took 23 hours to create. The video has now been viewed over 200 million times on YouTube.

The painting was auctioned last night for the Art Series Hotels Charity Auction with proceeds going to Make A Wish Australia and The Thin Green Live.

It was a 130x130cm signed 1/1 edition. Gotye was present for the auction last night at The Talking Art Stage in Melbourne.

The Art Series Hotels based in Melbourne are The Olsen, The Cullen and The Blackman.
