Gotye breaks 1 million UK single sales

Somebody That I Used To Know, which was released in the UK in February, has been a universal hit and is the biggest selling single in the world this year; to date it has sold over 7 million, topped the charts in 18 countries (iTunes No.1 in 39 countries) including the UK where it has just broken 1 million sales and is still in the Top 10.

The track is sitting at the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for a 5th consecutive week. It’s the first song to score a No.1 in four Billboard charts in the same week. The video has tallied up an astonishing 218 million YouTube hits and is still averaging over a million hits a day.

The tracks parent album Making Mirrors has sold 1.5 million and gone Top 10 in 17 countries (iTunes Top 10 in 28 countries). It peaked in the UK charts at No.4 and still resides in the Top 10 three months later.

Gotye is now set to release new single Eyes Wide Open on 4th June.
