As we've seen with Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and, to a lesser extent, Davy Jones and Etta James, the passing of a major star brings the people into the stores as a way of remembering the artist.

The albums of the Beastie Boys saw an overall increase in sales of 1,235% after the death of Adam Yauch last week. Topping the sales is their debut album, Licensed to Ill, which sold 18,000 copies last week, putting it on the Billboard Top 200 at number 18.

Further down the chart is Solid Gold Hits at 51, Paul's Boutique at 56, Hot Sauce Committee, Part 2 at 107, Ill Communication at 109, Check Your Head at 124 and Anthology: The Sounds of Science at 141.

All told, 55,000 albums by the group were sold last week compared to 4,000 the week before.
