Robin Gibb out of coma

The week-long vigil held by the family of Robin Gibb at his bedside has finally met with a happy note as the Bee Gees singer is coming out of his coma.

Spokesman Doug Wright told the BBC that Robin has been able to communicate with his family, including nodding, after a week in a coma caused by complications of pneumonia. Gibb's body has been in a weakened state after treatment for colon and liver cancer. According to the British paper The Express, the first words out of his mouth were "Hello, RJ" referring to his son Robin-John.

While little else is known about his condition overall, the family hopes that this could be a turning point.
