Damon Albarn has said that new music coming from Gorillaz in the future is “unlikely” and Blur are pretty much over.
Albarn spoke to The Guardian, and admitted that Blur probably won’t record or play live again.
Albarn said that after they nailed the recording of their new song Under The Westway, there’s unlikely to be any more Blur music.
He said, “It’s the first Blur song where it’s been one take, because previously I never finished the lyrics before we recorded. This time, I’d done that, so we were actually able to perform it.”
He reportedly smiled, then revealed, “Which is quite nice, because I don’t really see any more recordings after this. So it’s nice to have finally done one song where we did it properly.”
Blur are booked to perform Hyde Park for the London Olympics, but when asked if they’d play again he said, “No, not really.” He then said that “in all likelihood” the band is over.
As for Gorillaz, he said new music is “unlikely”, explaining that collaborator Jamie Hewlett is done with it. “I think we were at cross purposes somewhat on that last record [Plastic Beach], which is a shame. So until a time comes when that knot has been untied…”
