Skinnyfish have teamed with ABC Books to publish the story of indigenous star Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.

Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu’s story is a unique and inspiring one, the blind, indigenous singer and guitarist performing for decades years before his 2008 debut album Gurrumul sold triple-platinum.

Gurrumul’s label Skinnyfish music will work closely with ABC Books to assemble the behind-the-scenes stories and previously unpublished photos chronicling his musical life

Michael Hohnen, Creative Director of Skinnyfish Music said in a statement:

“We are taking this project as seriously as his music and know that ABC Books, an Australian institution in itself, will help us produce a publication that we can all be proud of. Gurrumul listens and responds to our talk about this book with anticipation and a spring. He is fully aware some of his heroes, such as Paul Kelly, have recently published books about their creative inspirations. Gurrumul is currently collating unpublished photos of himself to help us be able to tell his story in the way he would like it told”.

Gurrumul’s book will be published in May this year.
