The inquest over Amy Winehouse’s death may be declared illegal due to doubts about the coroner’s qualifications.

The Sun reports that the assistant deputy coroner who declared a verdict of misadventure in the case of the death of Amy Winehouse was not properly qualified in her job.

The assistant deputy coroner was appointed by her husband Inner North London Coroner Dr Andrew Scott Reid and officials are investigating his conduct in appointing her.

She reportedly did not fulfil the qualifications for the position – appointment to the Law Society for a minimum five years (she joined two and a half years ago) and five years as a qualified medical practitioner (she was only qualified as a nurse in her native Australia).

The investigation may result in approximately 30 inquests being declared illegal, including Winehouse’s verdict of death by misadventure.
