Bobby Gillespie reportedly asked the Happy Mondays man to replace Mani on bass since he is returning to The Stone Roses as part of their reunion.

Speaking when the reformation of the Madchester band was announced he admitted that is was difficult to leave Primal Scream, describing it as "heartbreaking."

He went on to explain the latter band were supportive of his departure, saying, "we've talked and they know where I am with this, I've always had it on my mind and I've never written it off. I've been allowed to follow my dream and I'm eternally grateful to them for that."

Now Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has confessed they are searching for the right person to replace him.

The singer's told NME that he asked Bez from The Happy Mondays last month.

"I was at an awards ceremony and Bez said to me, 'What are you gonna do now that Mani's gone?' and I said, 'Can you play the bass, Bez?' How cool would that be? Bass and maracas! He was like, 'I'd love to do it Bob, but I can't fucking play!'"
