A supposedly unearthed Bends-era Radiohead tune was actually written and performed by a Canadian baker.
Ten days ago we reported on a song that a fansite claimed was a Radiohead outtake from the early in their career.
The song, pitched with an old photo of Thom Yorke, was titled as ‘Putting Ketchup In The Fridge’ or ‘How Do You Sit Still’.
Now, CNN report that the song in question is actually titled ‘Sit Still’ and isn’t by Radiohead but by a Canadian singer-songwriter named Christopher Stopa, who now owns and operates a bakery.
Stopa appeared on CNN, saying he was as interested as anyone by a lost Radiohead track, until “what started coming out of my speakers sounded extremely familiar and after a couple of seconds I though ‘Wait a minute, this is my song’.”
Stopa actually though he’d accidentally hit play on his iTunes. He explained that he’d recorded ‘Sit Still’ in 2001 in New York with a band that subsequently broke up and, following another band break-up, Stopa set up a bakery with his partner.
“It’s kinda funny that out of the blue, after not doing music for a few years, with no band and not having played in about a year and a half, this all of a sudden pops up out of nowhere,” he said.
