A total of 24 songwriters and songwriting teams have been nominated for the 2012 class at the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Among the nominees are Elvis Costello, Dion DiMucci, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Gordon Lightfoot and George Michael.
The nominees are broken into two categories, non-performing songwriters and performing songwriters with twelve being nominated in each. Members will have until December 12 to pick two from each category for induction. The inductees will be named in early 2012 with the ceremony taking place on June 14 at the New York Marriott Marquis.
