Hot on the heels of the swoon-some Two Cousins comes the second single from Slow Club’s new album - Where I’m Waking - released on Moshi Moshi on September 19th. Despite riffs delivered with furious delight, Where I'm Waking is despondently romantic (“I can feel you getting closer…Don’t think about when things get older”), a mood indicative of their sophomore album, Paradise. “Death and shagging pretty much sum this album up,” says Rebecca. “Yeah,” agrees Charles, sardonically. “Cocks, fannies and death. That's our thing.”

Produced by Luke Smith – of sadly departed electro band Clor and producer of Foals’ Mercury nominated Total Life Forever – their new album is a far cry from the rattling pop of their debut. With its swooning but raucous take on doo-wop and its frazzled, fragile representation of soul inspired rock, Paradise is typical of a band whose members divide their obsessions between Destiny’s Child and Noise-pop.

More than anything, Paradise is a platform for Slow Club’s mordant Englishness at its best, displaying a restraint and self-deprecating wit even in the darkest of sentiments. The first single from the album, Two Cousins picked up consistent play at Radio One and has been playlisted across the regions by XFM. Arab Strap’s Aidan Moffatt and Malcolm Middleton were so taken with the track they recorded their own version, which became an instant blog hit.
