The Roots cover Madvillian's underground hip-hop classic ‘Accordion’… with Weird Al Yankovic on accordion.

The Roots’ drummer and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon bandleader Questlove has celebrated his 1.6 millionth twitter follower by posting an cover of Madvillain’s ‘Accordion’, featuring Weird Al Yankovic.

Madvillian is a cult project between underground rap stars and producers Madlib and MF DOOM that released the landmark Madvillainy album in 2004 (and is reportedly set to release a follow-up this year).

One of the most-recognised songs was ‘Accordian’ and who better for The Roots to cover it with but accordion nut Weird Al Yankovic.

The instrumental is brief but fun, and it ends with a voice (we presume Questo himself) laughing, “Al, you don’t know. The most historical thing just happened; you played Madvilliany’s ‘Accordion’.”

You can hear their joyful take on the song here.

The Roots and Weird Al were in the same room for a performance on Jimmy Fallon to help plug Al's just-released new album Alpocalypse.
