The 'Porcelain' hitmaker – who has released 10 albums in the last two decades – can't understand why he has been so successful and admits he is clueless when it comes to making the right decisions for his career.
He said: "I'm perpetually baffled by the whole thing. I've made records everyone has hated and I've loved and made records that everyone has loved and I've deemed, at best, mediocre.
"I don't know how all this happened. I've honestly never had a clue what I'm doing."
The 45-year-old star became a worldwide success with his track 'Go' in 1991 and admits he only expected his music career to last a year and considered other work options for the future.
He recalled: "I decided I would look for work in a bookshop and music would become like a hobby.
"Honestly, that's what I assumed would happen."
Moby sold over 10 million copies of his 1999 album 'Play', but can't understand why he received so much criticism for allowing tracks from the record to be used in several different advertising campaigns.
He told The Independent newspaper: "I still don't get what that was about. As far as I'm concerned, the whole point of making music is to get it heard by as many people as possible."
