The singer is releasing 'The Masterpiece' in May - his first LP in 13 years - and says it holds a special place in his heart because his mum was such a fan of all the music on it.

He said: "My mom passed away a couple of weeks ago so I now have an angel looking out for me.

"I think it's the best work I've done in the last 13 years, that's what I've been planning and that's why I called it the masterpiece, because I've been working on this album for approximately 13 years.

"It's just a special album for me because my mum loved it so much. She wanted me to put it out earlier so just having it out now is just great."

Speaking about the album on ABC's 'What's the Buzz?', Bobby - who was once married to Whitney Houston - revealed he was pleased he got the opportunity to sing about his favourite subject, love.

The singer - who is currently working with Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill in group Heads of State - said: "I would say it's typical Bobby Brown. It's a little funky and there's a lot of love songs because that's what I love to sing about - love."
