The Rolling Stones frontman is said to be working on his first material since his main bands’ last studio album, ‘A Bigger Bang’, in 2005.

Although details are scant, Mick’s brother, Chris, told Portuguese website RTP: “He's doing a record at the moment in Los Angeles with Dave Stewart, he called me last night telling me what he was doing."

Dave is best known as one half of ‘Sweet Dreams’ pop group Eurythmics with Annie Lennox, but he is also a successful record producer, working with The Beatles’ Ringo Starr, Tom Petty and Bob Geldof, among others.

Dave has worked with Mick on a number of occasions, co-writing and producing his 1987 ‘Primitive Cool’ album and later collaborating with him on the track ‘Old Habits Die Hard’ for the 2004 film ‘Alfie’.

Rumours The Rolling Stones will return to playing live imminently were quashed earlier this month when the group released a statement saying they have “no firm plans to tour” in 2011.
