Bret Michaels’ heart operation was a success.

The Poison singer had surgery to close a hole in his heart on Monday. Michaels suffered a brain hemorrhage last year and soon after had a “warning stroke”. When doctors checked him after the stroke they found the hole that they say was the cause of the stroke in the first place.

Last year, Michaels won the Donald Trump reality show The Celebrity Apprentice. The brain hemorrhage happened before the final live episode of the show. Michaels was in surgery one week earlier but still went ahead with the final.

The operation this week was to insert a catheter into the vein in his groin. It will assist blood flow between the two chambers of his heart. The singer had to have the operation or risk blood clots and another stroke.

Last month, Bret proposed to his long-time girlfriend Kristi Gibson. The couple have two daughters, Raine Elizabeth (10) and Jorja Bleu (5).
