Mika's sister is fighting for her life in hospital after falling from a window and impaling herself on railings.

Paloma Penniman – the pop star's 28-year-old sibling – was believed to be sitting on a window-ledge three floors up in her home in Kensington, west London, when she lost her balance and fell on a spiked barrier below in the early hours of Sunday morning (10.10.10).

Both her legs were impaled on the railings, and another spike pierced her abdomen.

Mika – who had been out for dinner with his sister earlier in the evening and was at the apartment at the time of the incident – frantically called emergency services, who arrived at approximately 5am.

A family friend told The Sun newspaper: "To say he's traumatised by this doesn't even come close.

"It's the stuff of nightmares. Paloma had surgery today on her abdomen and legs - but she is critically ill. Mika is out of his mind with worry.

"No one really knows what happened. One minute Paloma was sitting on the window-ledge, the next she had fallen on to the railings."

It is thought that firefighters had to cut a section of the railings and take them to hospital with the stylist.

A Metropolitan police spokesperson said: "Police were called to an address at 5.15 this morning, after reports a woman was impaled on railings after falling from a window."

A spokesman for the 27-year-old singer added: "She is in a critical but stable state. The family have asked for privacy at this time."
