Christina Aguilera has announced her newborn daughter's name.

The 33-year-old singer and her fiancé Matt Rutler welcomed their little girl into the world on Saturday in Los Angeles. Initially few details were known, but the star has now released some more information.

"So proud to welcome our beautiful daughter Summer Rain Rutler into the world," she wrote on Twitter.

Christina's fans were quick to offer their congratulations, with the message being favourited around 7,000 times in three hours. The name has also gone down well with her supporters, with many stating how much they love the unusual moniker.

The superstar singer thoroughly enjoyed her pregnancy and embraced the way her body changed. She was so proud of her flourishing figure she posed for a nude set of pictures for V magazine while heavily pregnant.

"As a woman, I’m proud to embrace my body through all stages of life, staying fearless and confident in surrendering to the unknowns the future has in store," she said.

Christina and Matt met on the set of 2010 movie Burlesque and he popped the question in February this year.

She was previously married to music marketing executive Jordan Bratman, and they have a six-year-old son together called Max.

The singer has previously called the birth of Max her proudest moment and spoken about how much she enjoys being a mother. She's worked hard to ensure she still retains a sense of herself though, and has never understood why having kids should stop women feeling sexy.

"As far as motherhood affecting me creatively goes – like, ‘I shouldn’t be wearing that because I’m a mom,’ – it hasn’t. That wouldn’t be fair to me," she previously said.

“It’s important to keep a strong sense of yourself when you’re a mom. You’re still you."
