U2 have recorded some “amazing” tracks with RedOne.

The Irish rockers have no plans to put out a new record in the near future. They have been working on songs though and have laid down tracks for three albums.

They are keen to go in a new direction, so have enlisted the help of producer RedOne. The producer has previously worked with Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull.

“We have yes. We’ve done some amazing work with RedOne… it’s shocking. I just played the tracks to Michael Stipe. He was like, ‘What?!’ It doesn’t sound like U2,” Bono enthused.

Bassist Adam Clayton is also excited about the songs. He explained the band initially thought their new work would be like 2009’s No Line on the Horizon but they’ve now gone in another direction.

“At first we went into this record with a bit of a sketchpad mentality,” he explained to Q magazine. “We thought there was more material left over from No Line… We now feel a long way from that material. We don’t want to go back there… we experimented on working with redone – and some very good pop songs and club-y things came out of that.”
