Taylor Swift apparently kept performing as her security team battled a stage invader over the weekend.

The 25-year-old singer has been on her 1989 World Tour, which arrived in San Diego's Petco Park on Saturday evening. Much was made of Taylor bringing Avril Lavigne on stage to duet on the Canadian star's hit song Complicated, but something even wilder happened on the side lines.

According to TMZ, a 26-year-old fan sneaked into the concert and continually managed to give bodyguards the slip as they attempted to throw him out.

Eventually the man, named by the outlet as Christian Ewing, decided to jump up on stage alongside his idol. Four security guards followed him as quickly as they could, but the altercation descended into a brawl.

In the ensuing mêlée, one bodyguard suffered a fractured rib. Christian was eventually booked for felony and misdemeanour battery and obstruction and his bail was set at $35,000.

Despite the seriousness of the incident, the only thing that made Taylor break a sweat was her dance routine.

It was a big weekend for the star, who also triumphed at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards, picking up the coveted Video of the Year gong for her track Bad Blood and Best Female Video for Blank Space.

The Bad Blood promo was bursting with celebrities, so it was only fitting that Taylor brought many of her friends, including Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss and Selena Gomez, with her to the awards show.

One person who didn't make the cut was Sir Ian McKellen, who has previously spoken about how much he'd love to be in Taylor's squad. However, he's now hinted he isn't sure they started on the best of terms.

"When I was living in Peter Jackson’s apartment in New York, Taylor Swift bought it while I was there and I was thrown out before I wanted to leave! That hardly puts me in Taylor Swift’s team, does it?” he laughed to Gay Star News.

"She bought [the apartment], she had every right to – I was just lodging there for free! She did ask me to appear with Patrick Stewart at her show in LA, but I had something else to do that night."
