Taylor Swift felt like an "incredible weight" had been lifted when she unveiled her new video.
The 24-year-old singer recently has debuted her latest single Shake It Off alongside announcing her first ever pop album, titled 1989. This news was shared via a live stream around the world for fans to interact with and join in the celebrations.
Now the song and video have been uncovered, the blonde star feels a sense of relief.
"The video is a lot of things. We had so much fun shooting it. I feel like I've been keeping so many secrets for so long and to finally have them out is just an incredible weight lifted and it feels really surreal," she explained to BBC Radio 1's Breakfast Show.
"It has a lot of professional dancers in it and me trying to awkwardly keep up. In one scene I kind of find my own people that I like dancing with, and the people I fit in with, so we picked all these fans from Instagram and Twitter and invited them to a place, they had no idea what was gonna happen."
With lyrics such as 'I go on too many dates/ But I can’t make them stay/ At least that’s what people say,' the song has a personal touch to it. Taylor admits it stems from her struggle to be accepted, which she eventually overcame and grew in confidence from.
"I think it kind of takes not caring what people think about you a step further to kind of locking the fact that people don't get you," she explained. "Kind of taking pride in the fact that you know you are and it honestly doesn't matter if someone else doesn't want to understand you. We go through these scenarios in so many different phrases of our lives, no matter what it is."
