Soundplate have decided that producers, DJ's and artists immersed in the underground house and electronic dance spectrum are in need of some recognition - and of course awards - to celebrate an amazing year for emerging music.

A few words from Soundplate founder Matt Benn summing the event up: 'I've been asked loads of times why there are no awards celebrating the music in the underground house / electronic music scene, so decided to put together these online awards to celebrate the amazing talent in our scene. It's about time our DJ's, producers and promoters got some of the respect they deserve! '

Since the voting went live last week The Soundplate Awards have seen early support on Twitter and Facebook from DJ's, labels and producers including DJ Q, Ben Pearce, MA1, Mista Men, SoulDelux Records and Zulu.

House music legend Inaya Day (who is nominated for best remix) tweeted her followers to vote for her. Other nominations include Jamie Jones for best DJ and Annie Mac for best radio show.

Matt Benn told Music News 'We are already amazed by the number of votes that are coming in. It's great to see so many people supporting their favorite artists, labels and club nights. It seems like the finalists are really getting behind the idea and campaigning for their votes, tweets and Facebook statuses have been flying around from most of the nominees already! It's going to be really interesting to see who wins - and a good excuse to throw a party!'

The nominations are online here http://soundplate.com/awards-2/ and the awards are entirely decided by readers.

The categories keep things back to dance music basics with the likes of 'Best Remix' 'Best UK DJ/ Producer' 'Best Mixtape/Podcast' 'Best Club night' and 'Best Specialist Radio Show' to get us thinking about our 2012 staples.

Winners will be announced in late December.
