Simon Cowell won't put pressure on One Direction to reform after their break.
Teenage hearts around the world were broken on Sunday when it was revealed the mega group, made up of Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne, are to go on a break after they've finished touring later this year.
The boys have assured fans it's only temporary, but many fear the worst.
"Well you make your own decision. I hope they stay together but you've got to want to do it yourselves," Simon told British newspaper Metro.
"I hope [they come back] but it's not going to be because of any pressure from me."
One Direction were formed on the UK version of The X Factor in 2010. While they only came third, show boss Simon Cowell was quick to sign them to his label SyCo.
They've gone on to become the most famous band in the world, selling out arenas across the globe.
"This has been going on for quite a long time actually, they always said 2016 they wanted to take some time off and I said 100 per cent do it," Simon revealed to radio station Capital FM.
"This is five years, literally non-stop I’m amazed they’ve done it for so long."
The band were rocked by the shock exit of former Directioner Zayn Malik in March, followed by the news Louis is set to become a father. He and US stylist Briana Jungwirth are excited to be welcoming a child, although they are not an item.
"Even though they were young that was a gruelling schedule and after a while I could see they were exhausted so when they asked how I felt about it I said for them to do whatever they want," Simon also commented.
“Having a year off is going to be a healthy thing. They’re nice guys, they’re loyal and they’ll be fine.”
