Edinburgh band Sebastian Dangerfield have won the second annual Scotsman Radar Prize, a demo competition open to all unsigned musicians based in Scotland.
The prize, organized by The Scotsman's music blog Radar, received 134 entries from a diverse array of artists.
The demos were judged by a panel of ten music writers which included The Scotsman's pop critic Fiona Shepherd. The winner, as well as two runners-up and "the best of the rest" were announced today online and in the newspaper.
Stuart McGachan, frontman of Sebastian Dangerfield, said the award was "a really nice surprise", while drummer Jason Irvine believes it could be “the kick up the backside to get things going again”. He added: “There are always ups and downs but it’s going to push us forward more.”
The four-piece will now get their hands on a range of prizes designed to help them make real progress, including a recording session at the famous Chem 19 studio near Glasgow, a professional video and photo shoot and various other digital subscriptions and distribution deals.
