Nicole Scherzinger thinks she is “going through a very transformative time”.

The 36-year-old singer split once again from on-off boyfriend, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton in February. The end of their relationship has been hard for Nicole, but she has channelled her sadness into her biggest passion, music.

“Now it’s a new chapter in my life, I’m going through a very transformative time in my life and relationships so I think there’s a lot to be said and sung about that and I think a lot of people can relate to that in a real way,” she told People magazine.

“When you go through the desert and walking towards something.”

Nicole first got together with the 30-year-old sportsman in 2007 before splitting in 2010. They were on-again, off-again from that point on until they finally called it quits earlier this year.

Nicole has been able to move on with her life though, and she offered her views on why sometimes relationships don’t work out.

“I think it’s hard, I think sometimes people stay in relationships because they get complacent, because it’s comfortable for them, because they don’t want to be alone,” she mused. “For me, what’s helped me to get through this is I’m quite a spiritual person, it’s grounded me and I’ve realised that I do have a great purpose in life and if relationships with people in your life are meant to be, then they will come back around but that shouldn’t be what’s holding you back from your ultimate destiny.”

And she had some wise words for any fans that were currently in a post-breakup scenario.

“Focus on yourself, because a lot of the times when you’re in a relationship, you lose yourself and you lose who you are and you lose what makes you so special in your own right and you’re always putting the energy onto someone else. So find yourself again, whatever that is, build yourself back up, be that big, radiant light, and do what you want to do.”
