Sam Smith hates Christmas songs.

The 22-year-old singer is currently gearing up for the festive period. But Sam admits in a new interview that he isn’t a fan of holiday season songs.

“I hate Christmas songs, it’s true,” Sam said during an interview with Boston radio station Mix 104.1.

However, despite his hatred of festive tracks, Sam decided to record his own version of iconic song Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

But Sam says the reason he decided to give the track his own unique spin is because he sees it as more than just a Christmas tune.

“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is the only song I would ever attempt to sing, because of Judy Garland singing it, and Frank Sinatra singing it,” he said. “To me, it sounds more like a classic jazz standard.”

Sam also spoke about the nominations he recently received for the upcoming Grammy Awards.

The British singer is up for six gongs at the prestigious awards, including Album of the Year.

And Sam admits that earning such an amount of nominations left him so emotionally shattered that his bosses gave him the day off to deal with his excitement.

Sam is also feeling more than a little excited about the prospect of potentially being a winner at next year’s ceremony.
“I’m just excited to go there,” he said about the 2015 awars. “Because last year I was there and I sat in the very back and no one knew who I was!”
