Sam Smith has hinted he's broken up with his boyfriend.

The 22-year-old singer was dating model Jonathan Zeizel for around two months after meeting on the set of Sam's music video for Like I Can at the end of last year.

But recent events suggest the pair have gone their separate ways, especially after Sam shared some heartfelt words at his concert in Toronto earlier this week.

Preparing to sing his track Good Thing, inspired by a previous break-up, Sam opened up to the crowd.

“This song is very special for me today, as I’ve actually had to do a very similar thing with someone I’ve been seeing," he explained.

Furthermore, once the show had finished Sam revealed he is once again on a search for love. But as long as he has his music, he'll never feel too alone.

“Hopefully I will find someone soon and when I do I think it will be a bit more difficult to sing songs because I will want to sing happy songs," he said. "Right now when I’m on stage I feel like it is good for me, it is like therapy every night.

“The music comforts me."

The musician also took to social media to share his troubles. Yesterday he posted a sweet but sad photo of him on Instagram sitting on a tour bus pulling an unhappy pout while holding a glass of wine.

"Sometimes you just need to lay in bed with a glass of red wine and a football T shirt and listen to Joni Mitchell. It's been a sad day. Beautiful show, but sad day x (sic)" he captioned the shot.

His rumoured split could be partly down to Sam's hectic upcoming schedule. He's been nominated for six Grammy awards, and he'll also be performing at the music ceremony next month, and is also up for a GLAAD award.
