Rita Ora has confirmed Calvin Harris blocked her from performing at the Teen Choice Awards.

The British singer and the Scottish DJ broke up in June after dating for more than a year, during which time Calvin penned a track for her entitled I Will Never Let You Down.

And although Rita was booked to perform the song at the Teen Choice Awards last weekend, her ex-boyfriend didn’t approve of the gig, so she had to pull out of the show at the last minute.

"For anybody who doesn’t understand how it works, he wrote and produced the song," she explained during an On Air with Ryan Seacrest radio interview. "So he has to approve anything TV-wise for anybody who doesn’t get it. And obviously he owns the rights to it and he didn’t approve the Teen Choice Awards.”

Rita said she wasn’t surprised Calvin didn’t allow her to sing the song.

But the Fifty Shades of Grey star wishes he would have informed her of his decision farther in advance.

“I could have got told a few weeks earlier, you know. That would have been nice. It was a last-minute change, but you know what, it happens and we move on and move forward… It is what it is, man,” she reasoned.

“You know, you write a song with somebody, and I guess there’s some stuff that comes with it… Everything happens for a reason, that’s how I look at it.”

Rita holds no grudges against Calvin, as she cherishes the love they had in the past.

She thinks their tune I Will Never Let You Down perfectly encapsulates the emotions they once possessed for one another.
"This song was written out of love,” she said. “I don’t want anybody to have like a dark cloud over this song."
