Stevie Wonder announced on the Ellen Degeneres Show that he is looking to compete on Dancing With the Stars. When asked if it could happen, Wonder said "I'm losing weight. When I get to where I feel like I'm gonna look good enough for what I wanna do, I'll do that."
Sting has a new cause, a new music center for disadvantaged children in his hometown of Newcastle, England. He said "Having grown up on Tyneside, I’m pleased to support this appeal for The Arches project and The Sage Gateshead’s ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for today’s young musicians and music lovers in the North East."
Randy Newman, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Shawn Colvin, Kenny Loggins, Burt Bacharach and She and Him are just a few of the artists who are contributing new music to a new CD to support the Everychild Foundation. The Everychild Within Us CD is available from the Foundation for $12.
"Some of America's most legendary musicians have come together to make a difference for children in crisis right here in the United States," says Jacqueline Caster, Founder and President of the Everychild Foundation. "This album not only provides an array of uplifting songs, but is also interspersed with the actual voices of kids from the gang-ridden neighborhoods of Los Angeles whose dreams of a better future are alive and strong. Proceeds from this compilation album support the work of the Everychild Foundation which works to make these dreams a reality by funding new projects to assist children suffering from disease, disability, abuse, neglect or poverty."
Soul singer J. Blackfoot (John "Blackfoot" Colbert) passed away on Wednesday from a heart attack in Memphis. He was 65.
Blackfoot was discovered by David Porter and took his first professional job as a member of the Bar-Kays. He then moved on to be a founding member of the Soul Children who scored 15 R&B chart hits including I'll Be the Other Woman (1974/#3 R&B/#36 Pop).
In the early 80's, Blackfoot went solo hitting another eight times including the 1984 hit Taxi (#4 R&B/#90 Pop).
Say goodbye to Napster. The original file sharing service that was the scourge of the industry until lawsuits forced it into legitimate business, has been purchased by Rhapsody and will merge into its new owners site on Friday. Napster had been owned by Best Buy since 2008.
