Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson, who was notable for being the founding member of iconic UK outfits Throbbing Gristle and Coil, passed away this morning.

At 55 years old workmates at his label are said to be in shocked at the sudden death. No official cause has yet been given for Christopherson’s death but we understand that he passed away in his sleep at home in Bankok.

Throbbing Gristle released four studio albums with Christopherson and the band split in 1981. Christopherson went on to work in a series of different bands including Psychic TV and his own solo-project Coil. In 2004, Throbbing Gristle reunited for a string of gigs and and new material, but again split after when vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Genesis P-Orridge unexpectedly departed left in October 2010. Carter, Fanni Tutti, and Christopherson continued on under the new name X-TG.
