Pete Townshend of the Who has been selected to receive the Les Paul Award at the 28th Annual Technical Excellence and Creativity Awards which recognizes outstanding achievement in professional audio technology and production.
The award will be presented on Friday, January 25 at the Anaheim Hilton during the 2013 NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Show.
The Les Paul Award is named in honor of the guitar player and technical innovator who passed away in 2009 and is given to "honor individuals or institutions that have set the highest standards of excellence in the creative application of audio and music technology." Les' son, Russ Paul, will present the award.
According to Michael Braunstein, Executive Director of the Les Paul Foundation, “Following in Les’ footsteps, Pete Townshend personifies both guitar wizardry and technical prowess in both studio and live music performance. He is a true original and a natural choice for the Les Paul Award honor.”
Previous winners of the award include Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Brian Wilson, Bruce Springsteen, Al Kooper and Sting.
