Nile Rodgers understands Daft Punk's concept.

The two musical heavyweights collaborated on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories album for several tracks including Get Lucky, which also features Pharrell Williams, scooping two Grammy Awards in 2014.

French duo Daft Punk are synonymous with wearing robot helmets, something Nile doesn't find strange.

"Thirty years ago I would have thought it was weird, but 20 years ago I'd have said, 'Oh, you mean Daft Punk?' because I was at their launch party in New York for [their debut single] Da Funk. I very much felt a kinship between them and Chic [Nile's band]. I understand their concept and I respect where they come from," Nile told Q magazine.

Chic became an instant hit with their disco tunes in the 70s, and are still performing together to this day.

As well as Chic duties and his work with other music stars, 62-year-old Nile is busy working on a theatrical version of his autobiography, Le Freak: An Upside Down Story of Family, Disco and Destiny.

"I hope it looks and sounds amazing. I played hooky from school most of my life, so I grew up in movie theatres and I learnt everything about the world watching films. So I think I know how to tell a cinematic story, even onstage. My childhood felt pretty magic. Yes, I was lonely, but I compensated for it by creating music and characters in my head I was becoming a composer," he explained.
