Nick Jonas wants to be "bold and fearless" with his new music.

The 21-year-old star made his name as one third of The Jonas Brothers, in which he was joined by siblings Joe and Kevin.

They announced at the end of last year that they were going their separate ways, and Nick wasted no time in pursuing a solo career. He is currently working on his debut record, and his latest single Chains is a new R&B sound for the singer.

"I think what's great about Chains - and the reason I really connect with it - is that anyone can make it about whatever chains are in their life," he told the US edition of OK! magazine. "For me, it's about trying to be bold and fearless as an artist. So, to me, the chains are fear."

There were rumours Nick's album would be called Flames, but he has now confirmed it will be self-titled. This allowed the musician to bring a more personal touch to the offering

"It seemed like the right thing to do to show this is who I am now," he explained of the chosen title. "This is the kind of music I want to create, and these are the statements that I want to make. And I want [my fans] to come along on that journey with me."
Along with music Nick has also dipped his toe into acting, having a role as an MMA fighter Nate in DirecTV's upcoming show Kingdom. This may not be his debut on the small screen, but he was desperate to prove himself worthy of the part.

"I had to work really hard in the audition process to show the crew and everyone at the studio that I could handle the role. I sank my teeth into it," he explained.
