Ne-Yo is hoping to start the year on a "high note".

The singer had a successful 2012, releasing his latest album R.E.D. and hit single Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself).

The 30-year-old saw the New Year in with a performance at MTV's Club NYE 2013 concert and believes in starting as you mean to go on.

"This is, like, kicking off the New Year, and I firmly believe the way that you start the year is the way you end the year," he told MTV News.

"If you start the year on a high note, you end the year on a high note."

The crooner was joined at the musical bash by the likes of Rita Ora, Ke$ha and Jersey Shore stars Snooki and JWoww.

Ne-Yo was impressed with the audience's positive reaction to his tunes.

"The energy from the crowd, the energy from the dancers, this is like one of the last shows of the year. We've been going hard all year, so that was definitely one of those, 'We got to go out with a bang.' We got to bring the New Year in with a bang, so that's exactly what happened," he smiled.

"I had a ball. I hope everybody else had as much fun as I did."

The singer finished the night by telling the show's co-host Snooki he wants to help R&B music make a "comeback" in 2013.
